check the oil if its milky than you have a bad lower intake manifold gasket. its a common problem on these cars the coolant eats away at the gaskets if the owner does not change the coolant every 5 years or 100K miles. But it could also just be a leaky hose of something simple. as for the security light flashing it should only flash when you set the alarm and it will stay on when the car is off and the doors are open. these are two potently expensive problems. These cars are great cars I have a 1996 Bonneville SSEI with the same engine. but to be honest with you your son will be driving a car that can do 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and do the quarter mile in the low 14's that's not a car for a beginner just think points and speeding tickets.
