Should I apply for the LLB or certificate of higher education in legal methods?

I am thinking about going back to college to study law. I have not studied since secondary school 14 years ago so I am not sure if I should apply directly onto the LLB course or apply for the certificate of higher education in legal methods offered by Birkbeck which then allows you a place on the LLB if you are successful. Does anyone know anything about the Birkbeck Law courses?
