Is UC Merced a good school when compared to CSU Longbeach or San Francisco State?

I am planning on applying to all three, but I heard some unflattering things about UC Merced simply because it is new. But what interest me about it is its high acceptance rate and the fact that it is a UC. But is the college any good? I am planning on majoring in political science.
