How hot should a AMD Phenom II x4 840 run?

My friend bought an AMD Phenom II x4 840 CPU. The cpu idles at 25c-ish, but when he runs simple games like cabal it goes all the way up to 50-52c. CPU Temp says his max is 70c. Is 50c safe for even a simple game like cabal?
