Can you own the idea for a business?

what prevents banks from stealing your idea when you go in for a loan? A multi-national bank is having a competition in my region for original business ideas, but I feel reuctant to enter my own. I don't want to end up with somev measly prize while the steal the bank, so to speak. I don't want to end up like Philo T Farnsworth
